We launched our Reel West Twitter handle one year ago to support VIFF 2013 and are currently headed towards the first 1,000 followers... thanks to you!

We enjoyed tweeting with you about your favourite #mustseeBC's and other Canadiana film, television and web series highlights.

In 1986 the film industry believed that if the Dominion Bridge property was converted to a permanent studio, our industry would flourish. Many people and organizations pulled together to lobby the provincial government to make an investment in our future. The provincial government did step-up and the Bridge Studios were built, giving British Columbia a sound stage that could compete with any in North America.

In November of 1986 Reel West Magazine reported that the provincial government announced a $5 million dollar investment. Here is our story:

More series, more hours of viewing - on a television screen: New study reveals how Canadians watch audiovisual content

On September 25, Telefilm Canada, the Canada Media Fund (CMF) and SODEC Québec released a study that indicates Canadians increasingly choose to watch TV series in preference to feature films and most viewing is done via TV.

The study also found that consumers are increasingly seeking on-demand access to audiovisual products across a wide variety of platforms.

Thanksgiving marked the end of Western Canada's three major film festivals in Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton, leaving thousands of film lovers thankful for some great Canadian cinema and many lucky filmmakers with a slate of newly obtained awards on their palmares.
